Chinese Main CourseWhen you think of Chinese food here in the UK, you would often think of dishes such as fried rice, chicken balls, sweet and sour, noodles, etc. The truth of the matter is that this is only a small selection of what Chinese cuisine has to offer and there is in fact an enormous variety of foods that you may not be aware of.

In China the food differs greatly depending on which region of the country you are visiting at the time. Wherever you may travel to food always plays a big part in Chinese culture and is a well practised and sophisticated art that has developed over hundreds of years.

Beijing Cuisine

The most famous place in china for its food has to be Beijing, which is renowned for dishes such as its Beijing Duck. Much of the fame stems from the fact that the Imperial cuisines were based from there. Beijing Duck is a time consuming dish to prepare it is oven roasted to give it, its crispy brown skin. Thin slices of skin are cut off and put onto a plate where it is wrapped with a fresh flour tortilla with plum sauce, cucumber, and green onion.

Cantonese Food

Chinese Chilli ChickenThere are also many well known dishes from the Cantonese region of China there are certain staple foods used in this cusine. Some of these include vegetables such as Shallots, garlic and Chilli peppers, then there are meats such as beef, pork and mutton, and they also have a range of sea food used in many of their dishes that even includes turtle.
